Marvel and Word Balloon Podcasts

| | Comments (0)

Ultimate Hulk rips Wolverine in half!I found out about the Word Balloon podcasts from an article at Newsarama. I've listened to two of them and they are great. Very professionally done, and the interviewer asks the right questions. The first one I heard was an interview with Jeff Loeb, where he talks about working on Smallville, Superman\Batman, Ultimates (vague hints) and his new job as a member of the writing staff for LOST. He also talks about the sad loss of his son, Sam, to cancer and the Superman\Batman tribute issue based on Sam's plot. Another WB interview is with John Ostrander, covering his work on Star Wars, Suicide Squad, The Spectre, and Grimjack.

Marvel's launched a new podcast--you can get the RSS feed here. The first podcast features another writer from LOST, Damon Lindelhoff, and his upcoming work on Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. Click on the image to expand the picture which gives Wolverine a heck of a challenge for even his advanced healing ability. Nuff said.

Update: For LOST fans, you can get the official LOST podcast here on ABC's website.

DC Cancels, Restarts series for One Year Later

| | Comments (0)

Newsarama has some pretty interesting news from a Canadian DC conference. A number of series are going to get their tickets punched. Among the cancellations: Flash, Wonder Woman, Gotham Central, and Batman: Gotham Knights. I just checked DC solicitations for February and there is no Flash title listed. This paves the road for these characters to be rebooted, and the theme appears to be having the kid sidekicks take over their mentor’s role. Rumors abound about Dick Grayson becoming Batman; Bart Allen will become the Flash (written by Mark Waid); Donna Troy will become Wonder Woman (written by Allen Heinberg and drawn by Terry Dodson). Hawkman becomes Hawkgirl (no sex change operation) and gets a dynamite creative team switch with Walt Simonson writing and Howard Chaykin on the art. This is the first time Chaykin will have done a major ongoing DC character in quite a while! Who knows what happens to Superman? In the JSA preview, we saw that Superman I was flying around during the One Year Gap with an elderly Lois waiting for him at home.

Joss Whedon returns to Buffy!

| | Comments (0)

The Buffiverse is back with a vengence.
Whedon made this announcement over on Whedonesque: “Speaking of Dark Horse Comics, they are starting a new Buffy comic, and as I understand it, it will take place after the end of Buffy and Angel and be canon in the Buffy world. And I understand it that way 'cause I'M WRITING IT. I'm kicking off the book with a four issue arc that finds Buffy -- you guessed it -- living in Italy with The Immortal. (Scott -- don't be mad I spoiled the announcement -- saying it means I have to finish it.) Then I'll be overseeing the book more closely, to make sure it remains true. Gonna be interesting. And it just might tie in to...the infamous Spike movie.”

Now we will learn why Buffy is shacking up with the Immortal! I hope Dark Horse will give him a decent artist to work with. Nuff said.

Mark Millar's sick and has to stop drinking Guinness

| | Comments (0)

Pretty shocking post by Mark Millar on his website, that he is taking some time off due to an illness. I feel sorry for him and hope he makes a speedy recovery. His work on Ultimates 2 and Wolverine have truly been outstanding. But we will notice that Millar is taking it easy? According to his post, he has Ultimates 2, Ultimate FF, and 1985 all scripted and ready to go. That gives us a few more months of Millar goodness. 1985 sounds like a Marvels-type painted mini-series, I am very interested to read that.

This is what makes me feel the most sorry for Millar: "Two weeks ago, I had my last Guinness. As a leftover from all this crap, I can't drink beer or whisky or Guinness ever again. No kidding; nature has been cruel in that my favourite drink can never again pass my lips..."

Shit, man, that's rough. He's moving on to rum and vodka. Nuff said.
