Comic-Con 2010 Green Lantern Press Conference with Ryan Reynolds, Martin Campbell, Mark Strong

| | Comments (0)

If you can’t go to Comic-Con, we’ve got the next best thing: the press conference, captured by ScreenCrave.

Ryan Reynolds discusses testing for the role of Hal Jordan and his training for the film.  Mark Strong talks about playing Sinestro versus his role in Kick-Ass.

This second video has more coverage of Reynolds at the Green Lantern booth, and on the panel he recites the Green Lantern oath for a little boy.  He has got the oath down—gave me a chill running down my spine!

I hope the film will be good; if handled properly, it’s the next Star Wars.  A few things make me worry.  The costume shown on the Entertainment Weekly cover and Blake Lively’s youth are a few of them.  Carol Ferris should be very close to Hal Jordan’s age, but Lively is 11 years younger than Reynolds.  She’s a beautiful girl, wouldn’t mind seeing her in the Star Sapphire outfit, but I can’t imagine Lively running an aerospace corporation.

Tron Legacy Trailer: Flynn and Jeff Bridges

| | Comments (0)

The latest trailer for Tron Legacy shows that Jeff Bridges has a starring role, back as Flynn from the original movie.

I was afraid Bridges would just make a cameo, but not so.  He plays both Flynn and CLU, the rogue program that appears to be his enemy.

I was a big fan of the first Tron movie from 1982, saw it many times in the theaters, amazed by the lightcycle races most of all.  It's amazing that this sequel is getting made at all, and that it harkens back to the events of the film from 30 years ago.  Nuff Said.

Awesome Fan-made Green Lantern trailer with Nathan Fillion

| | Comments (0)

I saw Nathan Fillion twitter about the Green Lantern trailer that a fan named Jaron Pitts posted on YouTube a couple of days ago.  Pitts stitched together scenes from various movies and TV shows.

Awesome.  The trailer really captures the richness of the Green Lantern mythology.  It picks up on the key story beats that have to be in any GL origin: Abin Sur, Hal being chosen for the ring, OA, the Guardians, the giant power battery, the inter-galactic members of the GL corps (Kilowogg, Chip), and the GL oath.

Wonder if WB will use any ideas for their Green Lantern trailer?  Making the WB logo green seems like a no-brainer.  Jaron lives in Dallas and has made other fan videos.  This one must have taken a lot of effort to put together.  Nuff said.

Update: Popdose has an interview with Jaron Pitts about the making of the GL video.

Spock Marooned: Paul Pope’s Star Trek Story

| | Comments (0)

Like many of you, I saw JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot.  It was pretty thrilling, enjoyable despite many plot holes, and I thought they accomplished the impossible task of finding the right actors to play Kirk, Spock, and Bones.  I liked all of them, especially Simon Pegg as Scotty.

The photography was stunning, as well as Michael Giacchino's Star Trek Soundtrack .  I can't recommend the soundtrack highly enough--it's original but evokes tones of the classic Star Trek score at the same time.

I ran across this today in the special JJ Abrams edited issue of Wired, Paul Pope's Star Trek story:

Paul Pope Spock story in Wired

The story and illustrations by Pope are a thing of beauty.  It's an interlude, narrated by Spock, during the time he spends marooned on that ice planet.  You can read the story online at Wired.com.  Nuff said.

If all the pre-release hype for JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot wasn't enough--with everyone from the New York Times to SlashFilm giving it rave reviews--the Onion steps in with this special report:

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

Fans upset about Klingon sub-titles in the movie!  What a riot.  Nuff said.

Slide: Comics Screensaver

| | Comments (0)

I've been playing around with Slide, a website that allows you to share images, create slideshows, and stick them on your blog. Kind of like YouTube, except for pictures/images instead of movies. You can download a toolbar for IE that allows you to bulk upload images and get a Windows screensaver which syncs up with whatever you upload. Here's a quick slideshow I created with no theme, just a smattering of random images from comic book covers and posters:
