Dream Girl: Her Best Work Was on Her Back

Dream Girl hard at work on her back!

I think this picture sums on Dream Girl's powers from the old Legion of Super-Heroes. A pre-cognitive who sees possible futures in her sleep, Dream Girl rose to the forefront of the Legion during Paul Levitz' tenure as writer.

Of course, part of her popularity was due to her skin-tight outfit, which exposed curves from any given angle. It looked like a silver version of the infamous Baywatch swimsuit. I think if Carmen Electra had silver hair, she would be a perfect actress for Dreamy.

The fan base for the Legion was incredibly active during the Levitz-Giffen years. Every year an election for the Legion Leader was held, and on one occasion, fans overwhelmingly voted in Dream Girl. I have no idea if election fraud was involved, but it opened up plenty of dramatic opportunities.

Element Lad was Dream Girl's nemesis, the man who should have been elected leader after long years of service. He was naturally bitter.

The other Legionnaires who couldn't believe this bimbo was in charge. Dream Girl was actually one of the most effective leaders, guiding the team through the Great Darkness conflict with Darkseid.

It didn't stop Dreamy from taunting Element Lad every chance she got. When he was elected Legion Leader, Dream Girl used her flirtatious skills to rub EM the wrong way in front his girlfriend.

dream girl is smart!

Towards the end of Levitz run, he wrote a great four part saga involving Universo. Four Legionnaires were able to overcome Universo's brainwashing to lead a revolt: Saturn Girl, Braniac Five, Dream Girl, and Chameleon Boy. When they couldn't figure out why it was these four people who could resist Universo, Brainiac reasoned that they were the four smartest Legionnaires. Maybe Carmen Electra isn't the right choice for this role after all.

dream girl is gone forever?

I really enjoyed this version of Dream Girl. Subsequent versions just didn't have that special character (or costume). Mark Waid decided to kill off the most recent incarnation in Legion, so it's unlikely we'll see this super babe again in the near future…until the next Legion reboot! Nuff said.
