Comments Closed Due to Spam-A-Lot!

I've decided to shut down comments on Photon Torpedoes. We've never attracted a great deal of comments, so it's probably not a big deal. We are getting spammed quite a bit, and it's leaking through my Spam filter. I've been manually deleting about 80 per day. The spammers have gotten very creative lately and started writing comments that almost appear legit:

Veteran game show host Bob Barker is stepping down from hosting The Price is Right after 35 years...

The Rolling Stones cancel a gig in Hawaii and postpone other tour dates as Mick Jagger suffers throat troubles...

Microsoft and Peter Jackson postpone the making of a film based on the Halo video game after backers pull out...

My spam filter treats these as valid comments. When I try to ban the commenters, Movable Type gives me this message:

One or more comments you selected were submitted by an unauthenticated commenter. These commenters cannot be Banned or Trusted.

I suppose I could sit down and add more anti-spam modules for MT, but I'm too busy at the present time. We really appreciate all the non-spam comments that were posted over the past few years. If you wish to contact me, send email to kidflash at photontorpedoes dot com. Nuff said.
