Shanna the She-Devil: Keep Her Away From the Zoo!

Shanna’s first costume was a heck more conservative.
Who doesn’t love a babe running around the jungle in a thong? I do, soldier, and Marvel’s pioneer woman was Shanna the She-Devil. Back in the 70s, her outfit was more a unitard, slit down the middle for some cleavage breathing-room. In looking at a bunch of Shanna back issues, I noticed a theme of disturbing images.

Shanna repressing the power of the bull!
She’s holding off a bull, the representation of male sexuality. The Hour of The Bull! That’s what I’m shouting the next time I’m in the mood for love.

Freud would love what Shanna is doing to that critter!
Lord Almighty, what she’s doing to that poor alligator, crushing him between her legs. Perhaps she’s working away her tension over the Fear-Bulls!

Hello, Ka-Zar, I’ll be right with you after I finish off here.
Now we start with the snake imagery. Slithering snakes wrapping around Shanna’s mid-section and thighs on the cover of Savage Tales #8. She’s having too much fun to notice her future boyfriend, Lord Ka-Zar.

Joe Chiodo loves Shanna the She-Devil
Marvel Feature #57 with a nice cover by Joe Chiodo. That snakes got a wicked gleam in his eye. Notice how I think all these animals must be male? That’s not the worst part…

Shanna’s Daily Workout, much better than Denise Austin.
…the worst part is that this Shanna’s pet snake and they are having a little workout together. Instead of putting in a DVD like “Buns of Steel”, Shanna goes out on the lawn for a wrestling match with her python. It goes on for three pages, enough time for a plot recap.

Shanna’s bustin loose a pack of wild horny critters.
In conclusion, I would say to you, the jury of comic book peers, to never let Shanna the She-Devil near a Zoo. Nuff said.
